Global Glimpses

From Haley Black, Teacher ICSB (International Christian School Budapest, Hungary)

This year, I am teaching ELL (English Language Learner) to grades 4-8 and have gotten the great opportunity to work with many of the same students that I taught last year! I have enjoyed building upon an already established relationship with them, including tutoring the same Korean student (a 7th grader now) 2 years in a row.

I have seen so much growth in their academics, friendships, and spirituality as well. This particular student has grown so much as a leader, as we have a new student from Finland with an extremely low language level.

My favorite thing about this year, so far, has been watching the Korean student’s empathy for his peer, as he's expressed, "That was me when I first came to this school! I didn't know English, so I had no friends. But he will have so many friends next year." It's been situations such as this one where my students have encouraged ME and have really shown me who Christ is through their care.
