Mexican Government Honors Veteran Teacher

SEP, the governing educational agency in Mexico, recently recognized BridgeWay’s “Miss Jose” with an award for 40 years of teaching service. She was honored, given the Ignacio Manuel Altamirano Medal, and a monetary award. Miss Jose teaches Kinder 3, which includes 5-year-olds.

We are very proud of Josefina and are thankful that she is a part of our family here at BridgeWay.  Her zeal for finding new methods to reach children has not diminished after 40 years of teaching. She is a shining example of what someone who is called by God to be a teacher should look like after these many years. She has told me that God drew her to BridgeWay and that she is very happy to be on our staff.

Ignacio Manuel Altamirano Basilio was a Mexican radical liberal writer, journalist, teacher and politician.  He was born in Tixtla, Guerrero, of indigenous Nahua heritage, and lived from November 13, 1834 to February 13, 1893. (Wikipedia)

The medal is given each year to teachers who have completed 40 years of service during the National Teachers’ Week in Mexico. Josefina was one of 88 teachers who received it from Governor Quirino Ordaz Coppel, who was accompanied by the Secretary of Public Education and Culture, Jose Enrique Villa Rivera.
