Running Laps for Laptops

They ran laps for laptops.

Students at Léman International Academy (LIA) in Switzerland raised money to purchase two laptop computers for students at Fateb Kinshasa Academy (FKA) in the Democratic Republic of Congo. A “fun run” at the TeachBeyond bilingual school in Geneva raised 1,280 Swiss Francs (about $1,258).

About 25 students participated, with their sponsors donating funds for each lap they completed. In addition to the laptops for FKA, part of the money raised went to renovating the computer lab at LIA.

The school received the computers with much joy by the staff, students, and parents. FKA may be the only Congolese elementary school where students have a laptop in their classroom.

FKA will be adding grade 4 in the new school year. It is a bilingual French/English school like LIA. Teachers at FKA hope to make an impact on the country through transformational education. Thanks to the students at LIA, they have a new tool for teaching.
